Partnership with UNESCO & Herbie Hancock

From the beginning of UNESCO’s creation of International Jazz Day, William “Doc” Jones has partnered with Herbie Hancock and UNESCO to unite the State of Arizona around International Jazz Day on April 30.

Through this long-standing partnership, Arizona has achieved unprecedented statewide recognition for jazz and arts education, including:

  • Support from four Arizona Governors
  • Proclamations from 10 current and former Mayors
  • Passage of HCR 2017, approved by the full Arizona House, officially recognizing April as Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30 as International Jazz Day in Arizona

This collaboration has positioned Arizona as a national leader in honoring jazz as a cultural, educational, and community-building force.
